Lesson learnt: Don’t eat or order something just because your friends do. Eat only when you really want or crave it.
Yesterday my friends and I went to a dessert house after lunch and I felt that I had to order something from there, and I did. It was unplanned and I thought I really shouldn’t have…
August 2010 - 64kg (highest)
September 2010 - 62kg
Current weight - 60kg
total weight lost: 4kg :)
i’ve noticed that skinny people eat very slowly. i guess that’s probably the reason why they don’t get fat easily even when they eat poorly. i’m not trying to say that it’s ok to eat junk, but this is one very useful lesson that i’ve learnt from them - savour every bite.
i believe that satisfying cravings with portion control can also help in losing weight as it could prevent over-eating later. for example, sometimes after i finish eating what i think i should be eating (the healthy stuff), i still inevitably succumb to my craving, which makes me take in more calories.
one other thing which i’ve started doing is to cut back on the source of energy which i’d taken in excess the day before. for instance, i’d skip eating wild rice for lunch today and have egg whites instead if i ate a really big meal yesterday that caused me to go over my daily target carb/fat/sugar intake.
5 more kg to go! still hoping to burn all that fats by the end of 2010 :)
food i resisted today:
peanut butter waffle ( approx 400kcal , 30g fats, 40g carb)
pearl milk tea ( approx 300kcal, 30g sugar )
chocolate croissant ( approx 300kcal, 15g sugar, 25g carb )
tapioca cake ( approx 200kcal, 10g fat 10g sugar, 20g carb )

1 scoop of vanilla whey protein powder
2 tbsp of hersheys cocoa powder
1 tbsp of chunky peanut butter
500ml iced water
1/2 cup of ice cubes
optional: 1/2 frozen banana
Put all of them in the blender and there you have it !
This is my current favourite. The chunky peanut butter is the key ingredient. I don’t really like the taste of vanilla whey so I had to use more cocoa powder and peanut butter to cover the taste.
This drink totally killed my craving for ice-cream :p

Orthorexia: Obsessed with Healthy Food
If you answer “yes” to two or three of these questions, then you may need to loosen your grip on food.
Are you spending more than three hours a day thinking about healthy food?
Yes, I spend the whole day!
Do you always skip foods you once enjoyed in order to only eat the “right” foods?
Yes, especially the evil white flour products.
Does your diet make it difficult for you to eat anywhere but at home, distancing you from friends and family?
Yes! I avoid family gatherings to prevent myself from eating junk.
Do you look down on others who don’t eat your way?
No, it’s their choice.
Does your self-esteem get a boost from eating healthy?
Yes. I feel good, healthier, less fat, and therefore higher self-esteem.
When you eat the way you’re supposed to, do you feel in total control?
Yes.
Do you feel guilt or self-loathing when you stray from your diet?
Yes, I’ll definitely feel guilty after eating unhealthy food.
Is the virtue you feel about what you eat more important than the pleasure you receive from eating it?
Yes.
Has the quality of your life decreased as the quality of your diet increased?
Probably… I miss those days when I could eat whatever I wanted without feeling bad or worrying about how much exercise I’d have to do afterwards.
Result: 8 out of 9 . I am orthorexic :(

i have the habit of overestimating my input and underestimating my output in order to be safe.
in fact, i have 1/2 a medium banana, 1tbsp of peanut butter, 3 milk-powder-type scoops of oats and 1/2 a serving of ice-cream.
i no longer trust the serving size that’s printed on the labels. i believe most of the manufacturers have underestimated the serving size.
it’s baffling how i can finish my Adam’s peanut butter within 2 weeks when i only have 1tbsp serving of peanut butter every day, and when the serving size of a jar is apparently 2tbsp x 14.
anyway, as you can see, i had a really hearty breakfast. the best thing is, i’ll be meeting my ex-classmates for sushi buffet later on. i’ll probably be the outcast again and order a mini steamboat for myself… i’ve had enough carbs and fats for today. i need to feel healthy!!!
oatmeal and peanut butter without banana just sucks
go and download Accuradio if you have an iphone :) you won’t regret it. it’s free and browsing through music can never be easier. select a genre and start listening to random music with minimal interference.
i’m inspired to go low-carb. i’ll probably try it for a few weeks and see how it goes. i don’t think i’ve been eating too much carb, though. i’m just curious why i didn’t lose weight like those who are on low-carb diet. maybe those people went to the extreme, while i didn’t, and don’t intend. i still love my oatmeal and sweet potatoes :)
for the record, i used to eat white bread for breakfast and white rice for lunch and dinner — that’s a typical asian diet for you.
update: i’ve downloaded some low-carb assistant apps and it’s insane. 25-30g carb a day? i can never keep that going.
